Home Studio: Lights. Camera. Action.

This is my first real attempt using lighting gear in my home studio. I will say, I am pleased.

Amanda was an amazing model to work with, she could interpret my mumblings and finger motions on which direction to move her head, while maintaining a pose. Her stunning eyes tell a story and make this shoot one of my favorites.

During this session, I positioned Amanda about five feet off the background, which helped to produce the black drop - mostly wrinkle free. I kept my camera's shutter speed at 1/160 sec and maintained a f/4.o while using an ISO of 100. I couldn't extend my shutter speed above 1/160 sec due to the black bar phenomenon.  {If you are not familiar with the black bar phenomenon, it is when you have a big black box covering a portion of your photo. Quick fix- adjust your shutter speed down, then work with your ISO and f-stop to produce the desired image.} During this session, I positioned my speedlight flash on a tripod in the center of the space moving it from side to side as needed. I had two softboxes, one was positioned to left, in front of Amanda and one was positioned to the right, beside her. The outcome of the photo session is below.

I love taking photos and am continually learning - if you have a photographic need please contact me. I am always up for a session.  Enjoy!
